First week in small animal surgery. Choosing this as a first was a tactical error. 15-hour days, an unfamiliar computer system, not enough sleep. Am still not unpacked (although I FINALLY found my pepper grinder, and my tent).
The new car (Honda CR-V, Claret red, named Sangamon) is wonderful... especially the all-wheel drive. Two days of BIG SNOWSTORM. Driving through drifts of the stuff on the highway. Thought several times that I was going to get stuck at the University, and would have to let my cats starve. I HATE the feeling of loss of traction, when suddenly I find myself driving a big sled. Had to get a running head start to get through the drifts in front of the garage door. Very glad I paid for heated underground parking.
Getting to scrub in on lots of interesting surgery. Lots of patient responsibilities... hardest part is not knowing the system, or what all my responsibilities are, or where to find anything. Need to review anatomy, too. Love the surgeons -- a terrific bunch. Very very good, excellent teachers, and most of them big leg-pullers. The U of M seniors that Jaime (my classmate) and I are in this rotation with are a good crew, but I feel a little funny in their midst, since they've all known each other for 3 years. I'll get used to it eventually.
Running errands today, and possibly doing some more unpacking, in addition to bills, other stuff.
The air is fiercely dry. I put mineral oil in my baths. I never thought I'd do that. I miss having my Dad here. His visit, and his help, were great. I really enjoyed his company, and his enjoyment of my beautiful apartment.
Living away from Brent feels like a vacation in a strange place. I keep wanting to go home to him, no matter how nice the "hotel" is here. Independent or not, this is harder than long distance has ever been.
Kevin has still not mailed me the paperwork for the divorce. Am getting really, really frustrated. I'll call him tonight.
Alright, back to work!
